A Wrinkle In Time

Changing the clock from 2:00 to 3:00 every spring, or from 2:00 to 1:00 every fall is arbitrary. Clocks change, but time marches on. People and even governments and nations can decide to change all the clocks. But we cannot make time go backward, or forward, or stop. However, God can and has. After Joshua led the Israelites to victory over Jericho and Ai, five Amorite kings banded together against the Israelites. God gave the Israelites a great victory over the Amorites, but they were running out of time to complete job. So Joshua prayed that the sun and moon would stop in place to give them more time to complete the victory. “And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. There was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel” (Joshua 10:13-14).

How many physical laws would God have had to set aside to make the progress of the heavenly bodies pause for 24 hours? Most likely, the rotation of the earth had to stop. What would this do to gravity? What about plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes? Would the weather patterns not be interrupted? Could God have actually miraculously altered all of these natural processes in answer to one man’s request? To answer no is to deny not only one verse in the Bible, but the limitless power of the Supreme Creator. To believe in God and His Word, you must believe in his absolute power. And you must also believe in his willingness to say yes to your prayer. So, here’s the question: do you really believe?
